A solution for the cold water in the swimming pool at the Wauchula High School - in sunny Florida - was to equip it with a solar pool heater. The Hardee County School Board contracted Solar Direct to installed an 80 panel Solar Pool Heater.
This system consists of 80 Vortex™ solar panels that are 12 x 4 feet each, arranged in 8 rows of 10 panels each row, totaling 3840 sq. ft. and an aluminum rack.
- Extends the swimming season up to 12 months
- Average temperature rise up to 20º
- No operating costs
- No pollution, no fuel needed
- Usually last 20+ years
- Minimal maintenance required
Phase 1 - Site Survey
Site survey, measurements, and engineering design.
Phase 2 - Site Preparation & Foundation
Grading, compaction, surveying & plotting. Footings - auger holes, SonoTubes, concrete.
Phase 3 - Assembly of Aluminum Structure
An aluminum ground rack was installed to support the solar panels. The rack is built at 15º angle and facing south to maximize solar absorption.
Phase 4 - Solar Panels, Plumbing, and Pumps
Solar panels installation, PVC transport lines, plumbing integration into existing pool system, control & booster pump. System Startup and Testing.
Phase 4 -Cover and Roller
A swimming pool cover raises the pool water temperature by absorbing sunlight during the day and then retaining that heat at night, plus preserving the heat generated by the solar system.
