"Can I really make a difference? "

The more you use your Solio, the less carbon dioxide you emit into the atmosphere.  From day one, you will generate your own free electricity directly from the sun.  The amount of energy used to create your Solio has been negated by removing unsustainable processes and, with the help of Future Forests, by planting trees in a protected, bio-diverse, sustainable forest.  This means that your Solio is a net producer of energy from the very start.

Solio has been designed with a focus on sustainability:  the ability of the environment to assimilate and transform any emissions from the manufacturing of Solio into a positive input that allows other earth systems to flourish.  We take great care to try and find components from the most sustainable sources.

The in-house Future Forests team partners with the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management (ECCM) to help select and screen offset projects.  ECCM has been chosen as the team’s independent science advisors because of cutting-edge expertise in the field of carbon management and carbon offset through forestry sequestration.

Because of our intent to create a new business model where the environment and the consumer are respected, we have analyzed and affected design decisions based upon what we know to be positive actions towards a more sustainable future.  From the design stage to the end of life, Solio has been assessed for:

• Toxicity of materials (product related),

• Main environmental impacts of manufacturing processes
  (based on primary energy consumption of processes)

• Main environmental impacts of raw material input
  (based on primary energy consumption for raw material acquisition)

• Recyclability
  (environmental impacts and suitability for current recycling technologies)
  

• Strategic Alliances
  Tests and analyses were carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute, known for excellence in micro-environmental technological research .  With more than 50 departments in all areas of scientific innovation, the institute is a world leader in research.  In conjunction with the organization’s findings, we adapted design elements that reflect our mission.
